Despite
repeated attempts to work with the bank, so far Chase has refused to do right
by them. To stay in their home, they need our help!
A group of
local activists and concerned citizens have come together and formed a group
called Save Our South Shore Homes.
Inspired by the Duluth/Superior based Project Save Our Homes, this group
is mounting a community campaign to put the spotlight on Chase, and pressure
them into canceling the sheriff sale and re-negotiating the Butterfield's
mortgage.
On May 12
the group held a protest at the Ashland Band Shell, and has launched a petition
drive. You can sign the online petition
at:
The group
is also planning another rally on May 26 titled "Tackle Home
Foreclosures!" Participants will be
wearing their favorite football jerseys, while holding signs and collecting
petition signatures at the Ashland Band Shell on U.S. Hwy. 2. Following the protest, the petitions will be
mailed in to Chase.
If you'd
like to help save the Butterfield's home, you can do so by forwarding the
petition around to anyone and everyone who might be interested in signing
it. We're also urging folks to write
letters to the editor, and to contact local elected officials to send letters
of support to Chase on behalf of the Butterfield's. The next planning meeting of Save Our South
Shore Homes will be on Sunday, May 20 at 11am at CoCo's coffee house in Washburn. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend!
