Love Water Not Oil

'Love Water Not Oil' - A Northern Minnesota Tour to STOP the Sandpiper Pipeline, the Development of a New Pipeline Corridor through the Northland, and Fracking in the Region

From August 13th to the 28th, Honor the Earth will sponsor an organizing and outreach tour in northern Minnesota, aimed at engaging communities and summer residents along the Enbridge preferred route for the Sandpiper pipeline, one of many tar sands and fracked oil pipelines proposed to cross the North Country.

The tour will inform local citizens and increase political and social pressure on the regulatory agencies. The outreach tour is combined with an extensive policy and regulatory intervention strategy undertaken by Honor the Earth, with allied organizations like Friends of the Headwaters.  Michael Dahl, organizer with Honor the Earth comments, “Political and social participation will be the driving force that protects the waters of the North Country.”

On Saturday, August 16th join Honor the Earth Trepainer Hall, 202 West 2nd Street, Duluth, MN 55802, for music by 23 year-old award-winning hip-hop artist and producer, Frank Waln (Sicangu Lakota), up and coming northern Minnesota blues artist Sonny Johnson and Grammy award winner Annie Humphrey. The concert is part of Honor the Earth's ‘Love Water not Oil’ tour.

At 6 P.M. Honor the Earth ‘s Winona LaDuke will present on the pipeline and options for opposition as well as sutinable development, along with other staff an legal counsel to talk with landowners.  The musicians will begin at 7 P.M. with donations accepted for the Sandpiper Legal Defense Fund throughout the evening.

Honor the Earth, along with other Alliance members, propose a moratorium on any new pipelines across northern Minnesota until two conditions are satisfied: 1) the oil spills in Kalamazoo, Michigan and Mayflower, Arkansas are actually cleaned-up, and 2) abandoned pipelines are made safe, forever, or removed to prevent leaks and spills like the Missouri river spill in July 2014.
