Petition to Stop the Penokee Mine

This past week hearings were held in Madison regarding the proposal to strip environmental and other regulations to make it easier for big business to build an iron strip mine in the Penokee Hills of northern Wisconsin.  Hundreds of concerned citizens from Ashland, Bayfield and other northern countries, along with tribal members from Bad River, made the trek to Madison to voice their strong opposition to the mine.

This mine threatens the eco-system of the Bad River, as well as the entire region.  And while it would create jobs, they would be temporary, while the damage from a mine in this sensitive region would last for many generations.  We urge our readers to oppose this proposed mine, and any efforts to strip existing regulations that would allow big business to sacrifice our health and future.  Please sign the petition below, and stay tuned for announcements about future actions!
